Yesterday New Zealand voted yes to equality!
"Amid deafening cheers of joy and relief, the gay community last night finally achieved full equality with other New Zealanders with the passage of a law allowing same-sex partners to marry, in a vote of 77 to 44."
The MPS cheered as the vote passed. Even many staunch conservatives supported the legislation.I'm proud of you New Zealand! But in a way, I'm embarrassed for us all. Is unity and equality so scary for some that it has taken us this long to "allow" two people who love each other to marry? Because it is so obvious that the opposite of unity is fear, and the opposite of love is fear. Why have so many people been so fearful for so long?I know that for us to find true happiness, we have to overcome fear, all fear. Eve Ensler, of The Vagina Monologues fame, discusses finding happiness in body and soul. She believes that
"happiness exists in action; it exists in telling the truth and saying what your truth is."
